Rose Lenses, FL-41, and Light Sensitivity: What to Know

Interchangeable Rose Colored Lenses by AVIEW
Rose-Colored Glasses

Rose-colored glasses and FL-41 lenses can look similar, but appearance does not tell you whether they filter light in the same way. This distinction matters when choosing eyewear for migraine-related light sensitivity.

Ask about the filter, not just the color

The Moran Eye Center’s guide to light-sensitive conditions discusses FL-41 as a specific filter and compares it with ordinary rose-tinted spectacles. Evidence for that filter should not be generalized to every rose-colored lens.

Questions to discuss before buying

Ask your eye-care professional whether the proposed lenses use a specific medical filter, what evidence supports that filter for your symptoms, and where and when you should wear them. A lens’s color name is not enough information to answer those questions.

AVIEW’s role

AVIEW makes interchangeable colored lenses for its own frames. They let you change lens colors in front of the frame’s clear optical or prescription lenses. The research on FL-41 does not establish the same medical effects for AVIEW rose slip-in lenses.
